    Black Health Agency

“The Day  I Changed My Life” .

     Positive Experiences and Black Communities

Black Health Agency is dedicated to improving the lives and changing the futures of Black and Minority Ethnic communities. For 16 years we have worked alongside our people to deliver better health and social outcomes. We have worked with thousands of people from Black, South and South East Asian, Middle Eastern, Eastern European and Refugee and Asylum Seeking Communities. So many of them, facing exclusion, stigma and discrimination, have decided to challenge this and change their lives and health for the better

    >  Now it is time to give those people a voice,

    >  We can proclaim just how far we have come.

    >  This is the concept behind:

“The Day  I Changed My Life ”.

The campaign focuses on 3 key areas:

    1.       POSITIVE CHANGE

tackles the issue of HIV/AIDS from the personal perspective of people whose life has been affected by the disease. Positive in both senses, this is the theme that originally sparked the idea for “The Day My Life Changed.”

    2.     CHANGE AND CONTINUITY

acknowledges the unique perspective of people from emerging communities. The sense of disruption that can come from the refugee experience is often accompanied by a corresponding search for continuity, whether cultural or through some other way of making sense of life before and life after migration.

    3.   CHANGE-UP

One of the core aspects of our work is empowering young people. Change up is about exploring the ways young men and women build their strength and confidence through peer education, and make a real difference to their own lives and the lives of those around them

Home space: Manchester - Property Hot Spot

    Manchester: Property Hot Spot

A producer of popular Channel 4 TV show 'Location Location Location' is so impressed with Manchester - that she's started up her own business here.

    Rebecca Morris (pictured)
has launching 'Home Spaces’ an independent home finding service.
And she's already relocated two of her first-time buyer clients - to homes in Manchester.

I think Manchester is a real property hot-spot.

     - There's a lot on offer here

     - a excellent range of properties,

     - good schools and lots of amenities and parks.

     - " it's a great place to live."

     - There's  easy access into the city centre

    Good public transport

"I recognised that many people struggle when trying to find a new home" sayds Rebecca, who's worked on the show and its sister show 'Relocation Relocation' for over two years.

"With busy work lives and family commitments, many people just can't spare the time and effort you need to dedicate to searching for the right property. So I do all the searching and tailor the service to suit the needs of each client - whether they're upsizing, downsizing or a first time buyer.

"We will find properties that meet your individual criteria, budget and lifestyle."

FIVE lads who grew up together in Moss Side have something to sing about after soul legend Jocelyn Brown pledged to back their first fund-raising venture.

The friends, touched by the plight of two other pals hit by depression, set up the Creating Change Group - CC Group - with the hope of making a real difference in their community.

Mark Aitken, Mark Ellison, Terence Gilfillan, Peter Amoah, all 35, and Neil McKay, 34, aim to use their professional skills to help raise thousands of pounds for charities and good causes

Their launch effort is to raise awareness of the devastating impact mental illness can have, especially on young men - so they are staging a "black tie" event for mental health charity Mind at the Lowry Hotel on September 2.

They have already secured a number of sponsors and are appealing for more.

Singer Jocelyn Brown has given the event her backing and will top the bill of live entertainment.

    Experience

Mr Aitken, a teacher, said: "We have personally seen how mental illness has impacted on the people directly affected and their families in our community.

"One in four of us will experience a mental health problem at some point in our lives.

"It's easy to think `It won't happen to me' and if you're lucky, it won't, but what about your mother, brother, sister or child?

"Millions of working days are lost to mental illness which is why we are also urging businesses to support the event."

Mind spokeswoman Claire Ashby said: "We are delighted that CC Group is fund-raising for Mind. The issues are often misunderstood and it takes courage to do something about it."

The World Health Organisation has predicted that by 2020, depression will be the second-biggest killer in the world.

The charity night includes a champagne reception and meal, plus an auction hosted by comedian and DJ Justin Moorhouse.
