11/20/2006 Favourite 3 Selected by Paul & Beverly Johnson / St Georges, Hulme0/11/2006 Favourite 3 Selected by Paul & Beverly Johnson / St Georges, Hulme
My first track Caught You In A Lie - Louisa Marks My daughter Veronica had her sixteenth birthday last month and we let her use the house for her Birthday party,
We booked the dj crew or clan she wanted to play the music, she invited all her friends around, both me and my husband Paul were a bit worried about the usual, you know when teenage boys get together with teenage girls.
We were only next-door at our neighbours with some of the other parent so we were able to look in from time to time to make sure things didn’t get out of hand. Anyhow the party went without incident.
The thing that surprised us both was the music, It was Hip Hop, Garage and Bashment from start to finish with no let up, jump up music the whole night.
When me and Paul were that age we both like dancing to Lovers rock songs like Caught You in a Lie by Louisa Marks, really slow... close up and personal, I must admit at times, all that slow winding could get really intense!
On second thoughts it’s probably was a good thing they played jump up music the whole night at the party...
Louisa Marks, Definately!'The Queen of Lovers Rock'...
My second track
All My Life - K-ci and Jo jo K-Ci and JoJo is an American R&B duo, comprised of brothers Cedric "K-Ci" Hailey and Joel "Jo-Jo" Hailey. Both members of the chart-topping R&B group Jodeci with the DeGrate brothers: DeVante and Dalvin.
All My Life" was the number-one song on the Hot 100 for three weeks in 1997
This is Paul’s choice but we both love it, in fact we liked so much we used it as our wedding song.
Through out the years we’ve had or ups and downs but on the whole it’s definitely been worth it and the words of this song say it all…
My third track Bogle Dance - Buju Banton We both chose this track because back in the day this was a record that could get everybody in the place Bogling, those who couldn’t do it, like my husband Paul would spend hours in front of the mirror trying to get it right. (Only Joking, he’s quite a good little mover when he’s ready). The Bogle, has got to be the best Dance ever to come out of Jamaica. 11/7/2006 Favourite 3 Selected by Esther Clarke / Universal Connection Dance Company07/11/2006 Favourite 3 Selected by Esther Clarke / Universal Connection Dance Company
My first track No Woman No Cry
I was in a car crash a while back and nearly died, I couldn't do anything for myself or children. My family and partner at the time cared for me and were very supportive but it didn't stop me feeling low, I would ask myself why I was going through all this pain. I love to dance and as a Choreographer/dancer my biggest fear was that' I would not be-able to dance or perform and express myself anymore. I've always tried to do the right thing and help others but it just seemed like my only reward was pain & misery. When you’re going through certain obstacles, you believe it's just you but a friend called me to let me know every thing was gonna be alright and said "I know this is not what you want to hear right now, but everything happens for a reason". These words gave me comfort! Bob Marley
Performing 'No Woman No Cry'
Whenever I hear No Woman No Cry; It reminds me that, life’s journey can be very tough but all the pain and heartache we go through can help makes us stronger. My second track I love this song because it makes me feel happy and free! Here's a few words that stand out in this song for me: (It's not in order)
Ø Cause you see I have been down for so long Ø Feel like the hope is gone Ø But as I lift my hands, I understand Ø That I should praise you through my circumstance
Shackles for me is not just about chains on my feet but circumstances that holds us down. I believe in the all mighty and if it wasn't for him I don't know where I would be today! My third track Alison Hinds was born on June 1st 1970 in England. At the age of 11 Hinds' mother and father broke up and Hinds and her mother moved back to their home Barbados. In 1986 Hinds joined the soca band Square One. Alison produced her first hit in the year 1996, "Ragamuffin". That song made her win road march of that year during the Barbados Carnival. Currently Alison Hinds She has her own band, "The Alison Hinds Show". This band was formed in 2005 when Hinds returned to the soca scene with the hit song "Roll It Gal" which is an anthem for young women and encourages them to have pride in themselves. I chosen her song; "Togetherness", because it's about bringing people together no matter we are from Esther x 10/21/2006 Favourite 3 Selected by Adaeze Ezeh21.10.06 Favourite 3 Selected by Adaeze Ezeh / Mosscare Marketing and Innovation Officer
My first track In 1993, many of the younger R&B singers were looking more and more like rappers. Instead of silk shirts and Armani suites, these artists were sporting gold chains, baggy pants, sweats, and gym shoes -- in other words, the last things that Luther Vandross or Freddie Jackson would have worn on stage. Intro the neo-soul trio had a hip-hop look, but the songs themselves (many of which are romantic ballads and slow jams) contain elements of the Isley Brothers, the Gap Band, and Stevie Wonder -- the sort of soul and funk heavyweights who helped paved the way for urban favorites like LeVert, Aaron Hall, K-Ci & JoJo, and R. Kelly Intro the self-titled debut album from 1993, I Just killed out this album. They were the first boy group that did it for me as a teenager….aside from Blackstreet… but they came a little later I think. My second track Mary Jane Blige (born January 11, 1971) is a three-time Grammy Award-winning American R&B, soul, and hip-hop soul singer, songwriter, producer, and actress who has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. The album My Life was the best album that she has ever come out with. The title track itself made me sing my heart out and I felt I could relater to it. Loved it!!! My third track Keeping The Faith - Faith Evens Faith Renée Evans (born June 10, 1973) is a Grammy Award-winner. She is also the widow of Notorious B.I.G. Within the past 10 years of Faith's musical career, she has worked with numerous successful artists such as Mary J. Blige, Kelly Price, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Nas, & many more. After re-marrying and having a third child, Joshua, Faith released Keep the Faith, in 1998. This song, teaches about having faith in the lord through out everything. I guess I was just so impressed that faith evens knew about the power of her name. Wicked tune!!!

My first track On August 22, 2006, Usher took over the role of Billy Flynn in the long-running Broadway musical Chicago, and will continue in that role until October 14, 2006. Apart from myself, he’s simply the best and most talented song and dance man around. My second track He made television history on the November 5, 1956, The Nat King Cole Show debuted on NBC-TV. The first African-American to host a network television show, the first of its kind hosted by a star of Nat Cole's magnitude. Cole's program initially begun as a 15 minute show on Monday night, the show was expanded to a half hour in July 1957. I love this particular track because each time I hear it, Mr Cole's voice is so smooth, it’s like chocolate melting in your mouth. My third track
This song give an account the true story of four post-Civil War regiments of the U.S. Army - the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th Infantry. These units were composed of black privates under the command of white officers, who fought for a quarter century against the Cheyenne, Comanche, Kiowa, Apache, Ute and Sioux. In the end, fourteen key black campaigners, whom the Native American had dubbed "buffalo soldiers," (Because of their toughness and resilience) Bob Marley, no doubt about it, he’s the best that there ever has been.

My first track A Wah do Dem - Eek-A-Mouse I picked this song because it will always remind me of a very special time in my life, my first proper boyfriend (Carl ….), had this record, he used to play it and sing the words to me to me all the time. I didn’t even like Eek-A-Mouse at first but he grew on me. In fact I still have this track on a special cassette tape that Carl made for me, when I first met him I was 17 and very naïve. We went out for 2 year, when we finally broke up I’d become a big Eek-a-Mouse fan and I’d also become… you know, a woman! My second track Officially - Lloyd Parks This a confession (Sorry Mum), I told my Mum I was staying at my friend Sonia’s house but I actually went to a party at Nello James. When this song came on a boy Call Martin Stewart asked me to dance, I was very nervous because I had never dance to ‘Lovers Rock’ with a boy before and Martin had to teach me. At first I found it awkward, it took a while to get it right but I remember when the song ‘Officially’ came on, everything Clicked, we got our timing right, It felt like we were alone and I was really enjoying myself. Part way through our dance there was an unexpected development which caught me by surprise, I was so shocked, I screamed and ran off. To this day my friend Sonia and my sisters still teases me about it. My third track Wonderful World - Sam Cooke Takes me back to my Childhood, my dad owned a ‘Blue Spot’ grammerphone (pre- Hi fi and stereo). When he played his records he would ask me and my sisters (Cynth and Rose) which of his records we wanted him to play. I would always pick Wonderful World - Sam Cooke. I would like to dedicate this record to my sisters, Hyacinth and the Kids Anton & Dee Dee in Whalley range and Rose in Hulme. We want to know... What are your favourite 3 tunes?...
